I was born in Kansai, Japan, and since I was 8 years old, I went into Japanese calligraphy world. A lot of time has passed since then, my technique is still far away from the essence of Japanese calligraphy, and I can not see any wisdom of enlightenment.

I will introduce the reason why I started to learn Japanese calligraphy with my parents' suggestion, I became more fond of Japanese calligraphy.
When I was in my second year of high school, my English female teacher was transferred from Australia to our school. Although it was a school that was bound by a strict school regulation, she sometimes went on to school with yellow stockings, surprised the students and made many fans. A cheerful and sociable teacher was soon accepted by our students, but as I was shy, I think that there were many times I often watched close friends and her from far away.
She and we are getting along well, but at the end of the fiscal year she was to return to Australia. So we decided to have a farewell party at her home.
We gathered in a neat clean apartment of a her plain apartment, and we bought sushi and fried chickens and everyone ate.
The party came down to the middle, and each one gave a surprise gift that was kept secret to her.
Other students, other than me, handed out fashionable and cute gifts such as small items of fashionable brands one after another, and she was very pleased every time she opened the wrapping.
But as the order of giving gifts to her got closer, my gifts seemed very shabby and I was ashamed of giving presents.
Especially I was not wealthy and I was not doing a part-time job, I could not buy cute gifts like everyone, I was making gifts with my favorite Japanese calligraphy.
My gift was written in a simple frame by writing "friendship" on a half paper.
For me who is writing Japanese calligraphy everyday, my present seemed to be very stale as compared to girls presents that other students gave.
But I can not prepare other gifts anymore, I offered her a present.
As soon as she finished peeling off my wrapping of the present I gave her, her eyes were filled with tears to see.
I and students who gave gifts to her can not swallow up the situation, waiting for her to settle down for a while.
She said that she was practicing kanji while attending a Japanese language school before going to Japan, but she said that the kanji she practiced many times and liked the meaning was "friendship".
As I handed her favorite kanji in the expression of traditional calligraphy, she felt fellowship and fate with me, she was full of nature and tears.
While I was moved by the accident happened between the two, I realized the power of Japanese calligraphy beyond the act of simply writing letters.

私の名前は京です。
私は日本の関西に生まれ8歳の時から、書の世界に入りました。それから多くの時間が経過しましたが、私の技術は書の真髄にはまだ遠く、悟りの片りんも見えてきません。

元は自分が好きで始めたのでは無く、両親のすすめで幼少から書道を習っていた私が、書をより深く好きになったきっかけをご紹介します。
私が高校2年生の時、英語の女性教師がオーストラリアからわが校に赴任されました。厳しい校則に縛られていた学校でしたが、先生は時には黄色のストッキングを履いて学校に来て、生徒たちをビックリさせるとともに多くのファンを作ることにもなりました。陽気で社交的な先生はすぐに私たち生徒に受け入れられましたが、内気だった私は仲の良い生徒たちと先生の様子を遠くから眺めていることが多かったように思います。
すっかり仲良くなった先生と私たちでしたが、年度末には先生がオーストラリアに帰ることになりました。そこでどちらが言い出したか先生のご自宅でお別れパーティーをしようということになりました。
質素ではあるものの、きれいに整頓された先生のアパートの部屋へ仲の良かった生徒達が集まり、お寿司やフライドチキンなどを買ってきてみんなで食べました。
パーティーも半ばに差し掛かり、先生には内緒にしておいたサプライズのプレゼントを各々が渡すことになりました。
私以外の他の生徒たちは、流行りのブランドの小物等のおしゃれでかわいいプレゼントを次々に渡していき、先生もラッピングを開ける度に大きく喜んでいました。
しかし私がプレゼントを渡す番が近づくにつれて、自分のプレゼントがとてもみすぼらしいものに思えてきて、プレゼントを渡すことを恥ずかしくなってきました。
というのも特に裕福でもなく、アルバイトもしていなかった私は、みんなの様にかわいいプレゼントを買うことが出来ず、自分の得意な書道でプレゼントを作ってきていました。
私のプレゼントは半紙に「友情」と書いてシンプルな額縁に入れたものでした。
毎日書道を書いている私にとっては、他の生徒たちが渡している女の子らしいプレゼントと比べると、自分のプレゼントはとても陳腐なものの様に思われたのです。
しかし今更他のプレゼントを用意することもできないので、意を決して先生にプレゼントを差し出しました。
恐る恐る差し出した私のプレゼントのラッピングをはがし終わると、先生の目はみるみる涙で一杯になりました。
プレゼントを渡した私本人も周りの友人たちも状況が呑み込めず、しばらくの間、立ちつくして先生が落ち着くのを待ちました。
先生曰く、日本に赴任する前、日本語学校に通いながら漢字の練習をしていたそうですが、その意味を気に入って何度も練習した漢字が「友情」だったそうです。
偶然ではありますが、彼女の好きな漢字を、私が伝統的な書道という表現にして渡したことに縁や運命を感じて、自然と涙があふれてきたとのことでした。
私は二人の偶然に感動しながら、単なる文字を書くという行為を超えた書道の力を実感しました。
またその力は太古の昔から、今も変わらず受け継がれている書道の真の力の証でもあると感じました。
それから今に至るまで、時間はかかりましたが、先生と同様に世界の多くの人にもこのサイトを通じて、その感動を伝えたいと思います。
私が書く単語は、伝統的なもの、ひらがな、現代的なもの、の中から好きなものを注文することが出来ます。またあなたが書いてほしい単語を注文することもできます。

【書とは】
書は実用が主とするとの考え方が一般的には多いですが、文字を媒体として情操を表現する書は、東洋のみに存在しています。
白い紙に墨で己の情感を表すこの東洋の芸術は、精神性を主体とし、対象物をそのまま表現するのではなく、文字を通して表現します。つまり抽象的な形をしているもの、つまり点と線との組み合わせで、感情や意思を表現する芸術です。
ただひたすらに自分の想いを文字を媒介として形であらわし、自己の理想とする小宇宙を創ろうと試みてゆくのです。
【書の歴史】
中国では3,500年、日本では2,000年の歴史を持ちます。小学校4年生以上には毛筆習字の正科が復活、書道人口は７８０万人、全国の書道教室は10,222軒あると言われています。
【筆】
筆には大小、長短、やわらかい、硬いなど種類が数限りなくあります。また中国製、日本製、もあります。表現する目的により使い分けるのが良いと思われます。
【墨】
中国製と日本製があります。漢字には粘りの強い中国の墨、仮名には粘りが少ない日本の墨が良いとされ、特に古い中国の墨は珍重されています。
【硯】
中国産の端渓硯に及ぶものがありません。墨色が美しく出ます。
【紙】
中国産の紙には鵞仙紙（ｶﾞｾﾝ）、唐紙、羅紋紙など。玉版箋（ｷﾞｮｸﾊﾞﾝｾﾝ）は最高と思います。これら薄いものは単箋、二枚重ねたものを二層といいます。
